Professional Development Project: For this assignment you will assume that you are the instructional leader of an established leadership team within your building that is responsible for designing quality professional development. After reviewing building curriculum alignment data, you have determined that students are not consistently being challenged with a student-centered curriculum that includes conceptual teaching, higher-order questioning, and performance based assessments.. After conducting research into curriculum development models, your team has determined that the Understanding by Design Model (McTighe and Wiggins, 2005) is the framework the teachers in your building should implement. You are to design a professional development agenda that will instruct teachers in this curriculum development process. Your team understands that your role is to convince your colleagues that this process will enhance student learning and provide the consistency needed throughout the building. Your design should include:. Read the articles / watch the videos – Be sure to use the literature to support/drive your professional development project. Purpose or why – are we providing the Professional Development for Understanding By Design. Intended outcomes of the professional development activities The length of the professional development (1-day, 2-days, etc.) A broad agenda which includes topics and activities One thoroughly developed activity (i.e. if you state that one of your activities is to instruct the teachers in the use of essential questions, what would you use for the activity to instruct them?
