Personal Artifacts
Archaeologists study and examine artifacts as well as the places where the artifacts were found to learn about the past. Today your job will be to think like an archaeologist. You can either be an archaeologist from the year 2020 uncovering an artifact from your family’s past or an archaeologist from the year 2500 who just uncovered our civilization. Find one artifact in your house. With this item, you will construct a story using only that one artifact.

• Where would you use this object?
• How old is the object and how do you know?
• Was it handmade or machine made and how can you tell?
• What does the object tell you about the culture? How does it teach us something about its past owners?
