Performance Management Issues in the News
Select a performance management issue from a popular press article or story/current event (e.g., newspapers, magazines) and:
Analyze the problem using concepts discussed in class
Propose solution(s) to the problem using scholarly research, and your creative thought (Note, solutions must be backed by evidence).
I expect each student to utilize and integrate at least two scholarly (i.e., peer reviewed) articles into their presentation.
Presentation Format:
1. Introduction- Act as if you are talking to company management
2. Company overview – What does the company do? Industry, etc.
3. Overview of performance management issue
What is the issue presented in the article?
What has the company done thus far or proposed to do?
Do you agree with the issue presented in the article? Why? Why not? Maybe they’re addressing a symptom (surface level issue) instead of the root cause (the real problem)?
4. Analysis of problem using concepts,
Assess what the company plans to do/proposed to do. Is there evidence supporting their strategy?
What alternatives exist in addressing the issue? Make sure alternative solutions are evidence-based.

If hired to address the situation(s) what solution and steps would you take?
