State Internal data and external data as evidence problem exists and is current in this setting and supported in the literature. State how many of your articles provided a solution to the problem/wrong practice. Outcomes & measurement1. Critically analyze and integrate selected concepts for application to nursing research.2. Conduct a literature review to support nursing research and evidence-based practice.3. Analyze legal, ethical and cultural issues related to research and evidence-based practice.4. Evaluate the use of quantitative and qualitative research in advanced nursing practice, education and administration.5. Discuss the appropriate use of research designs.6. Analyze methods of data analysis for qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.7. Critically appraise scientific evidence from nursing and interdisciplinary literature to support change in advanced nursing practice and improve patient safety and outcomes.8. Apply relevant research findings and best practice to advance nursing practice, education and administration roles.9. Develop the first two chapters of an original proposal for an Evidence Based Practice (EBP) Project to address a problem in your practice that is going WRONG in your practice area/setting. Search & Translate the best available evidence to solve this problem in practice and thus improve patient care outcomes, nursing education and/or administration.Chapter I – Statement of the Evidence-Based Practice Problem •The current problem in area of practice is… (State exactly what is the problem, what is going wrong? That you may need to research an existing and proven intervention that can help solve the problem by implementing a change in practice. This should be stated simply and mostly in your own words.•Background of the problem: history of the problem).•Significance of the problem (this is the so what? Who cares? State exactly why is this problem important and why it needs a solution or change in practice; for example, (3Ms) morbidity mortality & money)•Purpose Statement (what you intend to achieve to solve the problem, how you are going to go about it, in what setting, for who, and why)•Burning Clinical question (who, where, what, compared to what, how, when) (utilize Melnyk pages 28, 29 as a guide to write your clinical question and PICOT.)•PICOT formatted question(P) Population or problem of interest (I) Intervention from authors recommendations(C) Comparison or usual care (O) Outcome (s) (T) Time required for the intervention, if implemented, demonstrating results or specific outcome (s)•Conceptual definition of Concepts (Broad definition, Cite Sources use books journals not dictionary) •Operational definition of Concept(s) (what the concepts mean for your specific project or real life application these are your variables)Chapter II – Critical Appraisal of the Evidence. Develop your review of literature by critically appraising and synthetizing the evidence you have gathered. Indicate the quality and hierarchy of the evidence (levels of evidence per Melnyk page 28) as well as the reliability and validity of the studies. For each article you are supposed to highlight a sentence or two in authors’ own words recommendations for the solution to the wrong practice.•Introduction – repeat purpose•Search Strategies, databases (Suggested bibliographical databases include CINAHL, PubMed, Psych INFO, Academic Search Premier, Cochrane Library), and statement of inclusion and exclusion criteria including rationale for the decision to include or exclude journal articles. Yield of total number of journal articles•Explanation of the literature review guidelines used to conduct the critical appraisal (AGREE CASP etc see Burns and Grove p. 434, Box 18-1 and Box 18.2,) and definition and source of levels of evidence with citation (see Melnyk, p. 28). •Summarize each study by identifying the research elements (Authors, Year, LOE, design, purpose, study variables, sampling, framework or model if any, measurement tools, main results, and conclusions); determine the study strengths and weaknesses (p. 439); and evaluate the credibility, trustworthiness, and meaning of the study for its applicability to your PICOT (p. 443). A minimum of 10 peer-reviewed articles including at least one systematic review (if available) and one randomized controlled trial (if available) is required. See Table 7-5 Characteristics of High-Quality Literature Reviews, p. 136, to understand criteria for grading of literature review.•Evaluation and synthesis of literature. Summarize the reviewed literature findings. Integrate these results with patient preferences and clinical guidelines.
