Describe Parodic Work.
Steve Martin uses an old form of writing (the Platonic dialogue) to wring humor from a modern situation. His parody is biting, but others are more soft. Pick a parodic work (it may be Martin) and examine the humor within it. What is it making fun of? Does it come from love or meanness? Are the jokes effective even if you don’t get the parody?
