Explain what your character most wants (with a reason for this desire), then explain what your character most fears (with a reason for this unease). Using the narrative structures from a previous exercise, describe in detail the development of both the “outer” conflict in the story and the “inner” conflict in the story (noting the three points of crisis in the plot for each of these conflicts). The scenes of a story must alternate between this outer tension and this inner tension (showing a threat, a choice, then a regret), repeating this pattern of failure at least twice before being resolved. Write your outline of these conflicts, being sure to indicate the sources of tension in each act.
