This assignment is adapted from Professor Lanza’s class at UW Seattle School of Social Work. Given the scope of information and time period covered in this class it is difficult to fit in all the elements of our social work history. This assignment is designed to provide a unique view of the historical founders of the social work profession. The goal is to learn about our social work roots and the efforts of the individuals who helped shape our profession.. Students will complete a power point presentation (maximum of 10 slides) . 1. Provide a brief summary of the individual’s life and work. Include a picture of the founder and a quote from them about their work. (1-2 slides). 2. Provide three key elements of this person’s legacy. (1-2 slides). 3. Provide several life events or stories that illustrate their life. (1-2 slides) What was their level of citizenship (first, second, non citizen) and why?. 4. Your statement about the founder’s contributions to social work (1-2 slide). Consider the following questions in writing your statement: -Is the individual commonly identified as a social work historical leader? Why or why not? -Did the individual identify themselves as a social worker and/or activist? Why or why not? -What tensions, contradictions are present within the life and work of the individual? -How does the individual’s contributions more broadly relate to contemporary social work practice?. 5. Reference page of sources (minimum of 6 citations) using APA 7th edition for citing sources (1-2 slides).
