Discuss chapters three, four and five of the book ′Sweetness and Power: the place in modern history′.

A. You will lead the first hour of one seminar and then write up your reflections on the session. Leading the seminar involves introducing themes and ideas and bringing your colleagues to discuss them. As the course progresses, I would like to see leaders linking the week’s readings to earlier discussions and recurrent themes. You should start off with 5 – 10 mins (no more) of relevant comments and questions, bringing out the main themes of the reading; then lead the discussion. Think about how you can get everyone involved. I will help you with this, but am hoping to see you “in charge” for at least one hour. Following the examples of previously led seminars attached .. a 5-10 minute seminar of the last three chapters and a serious of questions that would help led further discussion. Discusing the book as well as the writers style and format and how this helped understanding. I need a seminar and to talk for at least 5- 10 minutes but then continue to lead the seminar for at least an hour so question to lead the discussion will be helpful. I will attach examples of ones people have done previously on a different book. I need it to focus on three themes (not the title of book chapters) and consider the writing style of the author and how they portray their ideas. i have attached two examples of what other people have done on a different book my lecturer said we would be discussing this – “Talking about relationships between the centre and the periphery or the core and the periphery depending on your language next week we get into the interesting phenomenon of working class people call people in core areas and their own entanglements in these Global economies of commodity production and consumption and that kind of really complexifies the notion that there’s just a rich privileged centre and a totally impoverished Paul and so will be looking at it in slate Different Directions next week will be talking a lot about consumption that’s a long chapter from memory but there’s a lot of repetition it’s just an important argument about what sugar came to me and that’s where he picks up that point he made in the introduction he said we have two kinds of reject The Economist notion that it supply and demand that it’s you know a simple matter of god they’re ringing me already I am going to have to flash it’s a simple matter of demand drives the market or supply drive to market that’s not what it’s about it all it’s interrogate the notion of demand he says and ask what’s really going on with demand” I don’t like the flow I have for the first two chapters.. since its a speech it doesn’t speak well and the paragraph on the last chapter is too modern and doesn’t discuss the right kind of information it needs to be more about colonization and economics. the questions also i feel need to be broader.
