The American Dream is a cultural belief that anyone in the U.S. has boundless opportunities to flourish and if you are not flourishing you are, for lack of a better word, lazy. In other words, a “people get what they deserve” mentality. This way of thinking made sense back in the day when the U.S. was economic status was boundless. This definition of the American dream is in essence killing us more that it is helping us. One reason is because most people are working more and getting paid less, our younger generation is the most educated than ever but yet at least 25% are underemployed, unemployed or aren’t even looking. Another reason is innovation is creating less jobs not more and those jobs will never return. Manufacturing has doubled over the past 30 years yet is only employing about 75% fewer than before. Indeed, our strategy on what and how to achieve “The American Dream” must develop and must cease the “blame game”. All people go through rough patches in life and some are more fortunate than others not by their achievement, but endowment. Of course, change is inevitable and so we must change our cultural mentality as well for the better. Acceptance that we still live in a great nation but that times have changed is an inevitable mental challenge.The adaptation of current economic changes working in unison so that we can progress in conjunction is essential. Together as a great nation a new definition of “The American Dream”, is a prerequisite. The term “Happiness” has changed in U.S History. “Our Founding Fathers introduced the revolutionary idea that each person’s desire to pursue their idea of happiness was not self-indulgence, but a necessary driver of a prosperous society. They created a government to defend that right for everyone.” Amadeo, 2020. Everyone has their own view on what makes them happy and own satisfaction. Today the American dream is not only based off financial success but higher education, career, and whatever else brings us happiness.The American Dream has been impacted by the economy by the opportunities in order to pursuit happiness and economic prosperity. More recently just acouple days ago Trump ordered to banned immigrants from entering the U.S. due to covid-19. This delays those who wish to pursue their American Dream.
