Now that we have learned about what photovoice is, each student will complete a personal photovoice project. This will include submitting 2-4 photos with titles and descriptions which will focus on an aspect of health disparities. The purpose of this assignment is to use visual communication and storytelling to convey a message about health disparities. Steps/ Consider the topics we have covered in this course – economic disparities (wealth and poverty being the two extremes), educational disparities, transportation, food insecurity, and “person first” inequities. Using these concrete examples, engage in “reflective observation” meaning consider what these learning opportunities felt like, meant, etc. to you. Choose 2-4 concepts or meanings you would like to try and convey for this assignment Using your cell phone or other device look for opportunities to take photos that could tell your story IMPORTANT – do not include faces in your project Advice – photos can be abstract, they are meant to represent something – they do not need to be concrete photos can be on campus, off campus, of objects – animate or inanimate, and really can be of anything that makes sense to you Be creative – you are not judged on the quality of the photo – I want to see thought and experiential learning Select the best 2-4 photos and provide a title for the photo and a brief caption telling the story of the photo.
