I need to discuss and present as stakeholder AMA in relation with this Topic 1: From 1 April 2019, private health insurance (PHI) companies have been prohibited from including certain complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies in their ancillary (‘extras’) packages. The CAM therapies affected are: Alexander technique, aromatherapy, Bowen therapy, Buteyko, Feldenkrais, Western herbalism, homeopathy, iridology, kinesiology, naturopathy, Pilates, reflexology, Rolfing, shiatsu, tai chi and yoga. This ban follows a review by the NHMRC into the evidence underpinning these therapies. Consumers can still use these therapies, but can no longer receive a PHI benefit for them. Given your perspective as a key stakeholder in this policy area, what are the priority issues for you that are discussed in the NHMRC review, and what key points would you make in a formal submission to a future review of the ban?
