When I say “tension,” I mean for you to consider the interactions between communities (government, economy) and image or perceptions.2. Why were structural developments and improvements vital to the continued evolution of New York City through the 20th century?3. Of those groups traditionally marginalized in society (those impacted by ethnicity, race, gender and class-based biases), how did they attempt to carve out their own community spaces and cultures in NYC and what was the reaction to those attempts? Think of the examples we have of how these groups lived and the struggles they faced in doing so (maybe from the readings?).4. Did Upstate NY complement (i.e. act as a counterpoint) New York City from what we discussed of 20th century developments, especially post-WWII?5.
