For this assignment, you will use census data to compare one neighborhood in Prince George’s County with Ward 4 (Brookland) in Washington DC. Think through why you are choosing the particular neighborhoods and what you think you will learn by doing so. You also have the option to choose other dimensions to make data comparisons if you prefer. Using the census website, dive into Quick Facts (https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/US/PST045217) and American Fact Finder (https://factfinder.census.gov/faces/nav/jsf/pages/index.xhtml) to look up information about your two chosen cities. Other sites for data: opendatadc.gov, censusreporter.org, and statisticalatlas.com Use the data to compare the overall population, the population by age, the population by ethnic group. Also look at all of the data on education, work, housing, income, and poverty. Pick the data you find to be most insightful and create a chart that shows a comparison of the 10-15 categories of data that you find to be most interesting. It should something look like this, although you may have to adjust the categories to find matching comparisons. Make sure you are comparing apples to apples, meaning if the data is from two different sources, that they match on characteristics like year collected, sample etc. or include a strong reason why you think it is a reasonable comparison. *please contact me if you think there is a better criteria to compare* Neighborhood A: Brookland in Washington D.C. Continue to explore the Census Department website and extract information that supplements and enhances the qualitative insights you have found so far. Develop 2 research questions based on an analysis of the data you have found that links it to your project (How does gentrification affect art and culture?). In a 3-4 page research memo, provide the data you have found and interpret it in light of your previous qualitative insights hypothesizing an answer to your research questions. Your explanation must reflect sociological thinking and at this point will continue to be exploratory.
