How far are any claims contained here either verified or replicated elsewhere?

For this discussion, you will have wanted to have read Chapter 6 (and perhaps reviewed the slides slides just to reinforce the material).In the video linked below, Chatfield calls out “fake news” and “alternative facts,” two terms that have gained widespread usage in the last several years. You know why. However, beyond those terms, there is an underlying point in that claims need to be scrutinized with impartial care as we scrutinize and authenticate them. This is regardless of whether or not the claim, or argument, adheres to our own point of view. It is, perhaps, especially important that at times we questions those things that we already believe to be true and see of those beliefs hold up to scrutiny. Maybe they do hold up, or maybe we end up shifting our views to accommodate the evidence.A very good example of claims and evidence (or the lack thereof) can be seen in President Trump’s push for the use of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment against COVID-19. Or Holocaust deniers. It all just baffles the mind.LinkBelow are two examples ads from the same campaign, and they have the same point. While these are images, as opposed to text, they are both presenting an argument, perhaps more implied than explicit. In an upcoming chapter, we will be looking at argumentative fallacies, and those could help us examine these advertisements a little more deeply, but what we are focusing on right now is being an engaged reader. Using Chatfield’s list of questioning, see page 123 of the textbook for further explanation, write out your answers to those questions as they relate to the images below.What is the aim or agenda behind this?What do those creating or curating this know, and what don’t they know?How far are any claims contained here either verified or replicated elsewhere?
