Do you believe we should continue in the mostly mechanistic direction that sees humans as lacking a mind or the ability to figure anything out for themselves and therefore need an outside source of assistance in the form of science, to direct how they we should live our lives. Do we need someone outside of us to solve all our problems and answer all our questions? Is the goal of psychology to have someone think for us and through the application of science tell us how to live our lives? This has been the view of mainstream psychology for the last century. Do you agree with this approach and who in this approach are the key figures, which theorist best represent this view in the past and in contemporary psychology? This approach is perfectly acceptable and you can take this position in your paper, but trace the historical and contemporary heroes in tis view in your paper. Point to any successes that we may have achieved in this model or direction for psychology. What aspects of human society have been improved by taking the mechanistic approach. It will take a little digging, but not a lot and should make for an interesting paper.
