Question #1. “The Patriot Chiefs” you should have some idea as to how a small number of Native Americans essentially beat the odds and brought a modicum of success against the white man, even though their fates were doomed from the start. Whether it was Pope against the Spanish in the 16th Century to Chief Joseph of the Nez Perce in the 1877s, you can choose from a list including the aforementioned plus Tecumseh, Osceola, King Philip, Crazy Horse and so on. Summarize the exploits of three of the leaders even though their successes would prove to be of only a temporary nature. It is a sad and tragic commentary that Native Americans ultimately were doomed. That is not to say that we should not recognize their efforts . Question #2. From the Compromise of 1820 (also known as the Missouri Compromise) to the South Carolina legislature’s vote for secession in December of 1860 a series of significant events put the United States on the inevitable path to Civil War.
