Assignment Details: Selecting a point of departure prompt above, students create a thesis-driven argument that synthesizes a total of at least 6 printed texts. At least 2 class-assigned texts and 4 scholarly external sources must be used. Students attend a mandatory research orientation which instructs them on the use of the databases. Only sources found in the catalog or databases are permitted. Students should formally introduce all sources, giving proper summary, context, quote integration, analysis, synthesis. Define key terminology surrounding your prompt selection, as for the unknowing reader. Unify your essay in support of your thesis, using sophisticated sentencing that is appropriate for an academic audience and formatting with MLA documentation. Textual evidence should be given for at least 6 sources.

•  Introductions should formally introduce one point of departure source, orienting readers to the topic and issues at hand.
•  The thesis should include a claim, the reasons for the claim, and a larger effect. Additionally, it should be arguable and include a counterargument.
•  The paper should be organized properly with strong topic sentences that unify with the thesis and indicate the supporting idea to come (verbal and logical bridges).
•  Ample textual evidence should be quoted from all 6 sources.
•  Context, analysis, and synthesis is required. Particularly in regard to analysis, students should demonstrate insightful close-reading by dissecting their evidence.
•  Your conclusion should leave the reader with not only a reiteration of the argument but with something to think about, a take away that goes with them once the paper is finished.
