Prosecution Summary Assignment

1. Research the topic of “Prosecution Summary.” A Prosecution Summary is a compilation of documents that assist the prosecution of criminal cases. In North Carolina law enforcement agencies typically mandate that officers complete a summary for the District Attorney on cases that are a class “I” felonies or higher.

2. You need to find a case that has been discussed very much in the media and the court system. You may use the OJ Simpson case if you would like. It has been discussed, researched over and over in the system or if you are ambitious create your own crime. You are to investigate the crime… just like you were a crime scene investigator. You will need to do research on this other than your textbook. Your assignment should include crime scene sketches, list of evidence, lab reports, victim statements, arrest reports and any other information you feel is important to the complete investigation of the case.

3. You will document your investigation and compile the files in the form of a Prosecution Summary. Examples of Prosecution Summaries are posted in Moodle. If there is a form or report that you feel is necessary for the submission of your case you may find a copy online or create one on your own. For example, if you would send a piece of evidence to the lab for testing you may create a lab report or provide a description of what you would do.

Assignment

1. Provide a one page description of a Prosecution Summary with at least three (3) outside sources. You may use the sources provided in Canvas or additional sources. These sources must be properly referenced in the text of your document and at the end of your assignment. Use www.easybib.com in order to properly reference citations.

2. The next section should be the bulk of your paper – This section should include witness list, sketches and lab documents, etc. (This is the case you studied – some of this may need to “fictional since it is a case you have researched but not actually seen list, lab documents)

3. Write a case summary at the end of your document including what you learned from the process of creating this document. This should be approximately one page.

4. Provide a proper “Works Cited” document at the end of your summary.
