Uncategorized Assignment-helpSelect a passage from any author (the text could be a poem, short story, novel, song lyrics, fairy tale, article, scientific text, dialogue from a film or play, interview, etc.). The passage you select should be at least 5 lines long. Provide the author, title, and publisher information for the entire text from which you select the passage in an entry at the end of your quote (MLA style, just like in a Works Cited list–but you have only one work). Study the passage to learn why its admirable it. Is the sentiment aptly expressed? Does its author make innovative use of some figure of speech or trope? Is the argument original or exciting? Using all of the terms (the elements and features of the rhetorical situation) studied this week in connection with what makes a text effective, discuss the two issues below: 1. Why you think the text/passage you have chosen is effective (with a particular audience and in a particular context). (50 words) 2. Then, analyze the passage rhetorically considering and discussing 3 rhetorical elements (see the Rhetorical Situation Handout in the files) and three linguistic elements (such as figurative language, tone, argument, evidence, word choice, syntax (word order), grammar, etc.).
