A Midsummer Night’s Dream for my theatre company to produce. This is a very real interaction in the theatre world, and it’s good practice for those of you who are studying business and need to learn how to market yourself. Here’s what you need to do: Re-read A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare. Decide on a NEW concept for you play. This includes placing your play in a new time period, era, or place (location), WITHOUT changing any MAJOR parts of the story or plot. For example, you may want to set A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the Galapagos Islands during the time of discovery, mystery, and Darwin. Keep all the same words, but occasionally change words like “Sparta” and replace it with “Galapagos. Or you might want to set it in the theme of Star Trek and make it completely sci-fi. The choice is yours! In addition to building a concept you will have to take on ONE aspect of design and render either a costume, a set, or a lighting plot and a cue sheet.The assignment is broken up into two parts:1.) ESSAY (35 pts)Each person must write a 3-6 page essay in MLA format. This is a research paper!!!The written part must discuss the following (3-6 pgs.):YOUR CONCEPT (10pts): What was my role/job in the project? What were my duties/jobs? Were my duties fulfilled? How were they fulfilled? Go back and look at the power-point presentations and discover exactly what you would have to do if you were a scenic/costume/lighting/etc designer.YOUR ART (10pts): What were my concepts (i.e. my inspiration, time period, era, location)? How did you come up with the concepts and ideas to your design? (This is your opportunity to tell us what you attributed creatively and artistically .)RESEARCH (10pts): Research on your role and also the concept (time period, people, the play, playwright, past productions or plays…anything that assisted in you creating your art.)SPECTACLE (5pts): In addition to your 3-6 page written essay, you will need to add a visual or audio part to your essay that accompanies the “Your Art” section of your essay. This section of you paper is NOT included in the 3-6 pages written part; it is in addition to it!! Use visual aides in this section to explain your inspiration and your justification on WHY this new concept works with this play. Include it as a separate page in your essay. 2.) PRESENTATION (15pts) PowerPoint must have visual aides and audio examples to further build your concept. You must explain all three points you have written about in your essay portion and present it in an organized and rehearsed manner. In this presentation you must include all the design aspects of the class that we’ve covered, i.e. set design, costume, and lighting and sound. ROLE/JOB DESCRIPTIONS:As a Director/Dramaturge your job is to build a concept for the play. The concept must be justified and the director must explain why this is his/her choice. Then the directors work closely with their designers to make sure their vision and concept is carried out the way they envision.
