This week’s readings discuss important aspects of Science Fiction (SF), including definitions of Science Fiction–how it is distinguished from other types of fiction and fantasy writing–and its purpose.

In considering these aspects, as put forward by the authors, answer the following questions in a few paragraphs:
What are the most important similarities and differences between Cognitive Estrangement (Suvin) and Structural Fabulation (Scholes)? How does this help us understand what Science Fiction is trying to accomplish according to their writing and the other readings for the week? Make sure to 1) define each term; 2) describe at least one similarity AND one difference between them; and 3) explain TWO ways these ideas help us understand what SF is trying to accomplish. In your discussion, please refer to all THREE of the following readings: Stover (1973), Roberts (2000), and Slusser and Rabkin (1987).
