Questions to consider (drawing on readings from the “Class at the Intersections” modules):
1. What are some connections between race and class that are made in some of the readings in this module on “class” issues? Expand on the connections from your own experience/perspective.
2. Discuss Alperowitz’ idea of taxing the wealthy in our society in light of political debates of the last few years between democrats and republicans and the recent election of Donald Trump.
3. What are some policies that have been institutionalized to advantage those with more money over those with less? Use the Ehrenreich and/or Tim Wise articles to make your points. Discuss how these have shifted over time.
4. Find a statistic about class in the US that surprises or engages you you (explore online – and try and use reliable sources – you can look up taxes paid by the wealthiest 2% as a percentage of their income, or the poverty line for a family of four, or the number of hungry children in the US, or healthcare costs, etc.) and offer your analysis of that statistic in light of the articles we have read in this section.
5. Using at least two readings in your answer, discuss a policy you would propose if you were in the senate to help grow the middle class in the U.S.
