Topic: Human Security Challenges at U.S./Mexico Border

The three research questions that to focus on answering are: What are the key human security challenges faced by asylum seekers and migrants at the US/Mexico border? How have US policies, including those implemented during the Trump administration, contributed to the humanitarian crisis at the border? What are the implications of the US/Mexico border crisis for broader discussions of human security and migration policy? Incorporate evidence of lack of personal and political security for migrants crossing the U.S./Mexico border such as the inhuman conditions that migrants have to endure while in detention camps or tent shelters like not receiving proper medical care, the quick spread of illnesses in these compact environments, the abuse and mistreatment from officers at the border, kidnapping/human trafficking.

Also mention, policies that have denied asylee’s and refugees legal representation and put migrants safety in danger by sending them back to Mexico despite their safetly being in danger .

The Components/Sections of the Research Paper are as follows: 1. Cover Page; 2. Abstract; An abstract summarizes, usually in one paragraph of 300 words or less, the major aspects of the entire paper in a prescribed sequence that includes:

1) the overall purpose of the study and the research problem(s) you investigated;

2) the basic design of the study;

3) major findings or trends found as a result of your analysis; and,

4) a brief summary of your interpretations and conclusions. (source: http://libguides.usc.edu/writingguide/abstract accessed 1/21/18) see, “Journal Abstracts” hand-out.

3. Table of Contents; indicating various sections/sub-sections of paper and respective page numbers. Make sure to include section/chapter headers for each section in body of paper!

4. Introduction; clear articulation of the topic and main theme(s) to be developed. Conclusion of introduction should provide the organization of paper, i.e., ‘the first section will explore the second section will investigate…., etc.”

5. Methodology; Include either in your introduction or as a separate section after introduction an explanation of the methodology (rigorous and systematic logic) by which your research will be conducted/constrained.

6. Background and broader context; critical discussion of broader context within which your topic/research question fits. > these sections may be combined

7. Theoretical/Conceptual Perspective; review of the literature. You will need to offer a review of the relevant literature related to your research question/thesis/hypothesis. Ultimately it is important that you demonstrate you have done a serious reading of the major theories/approaches to the topic you are investigating and can make a case for the particular subset of the literature which will inform your research.

8. Main Body; analysis of core arguments, key issues/variables, conceptual debates, etc.

9. Main Findings; evidence of your resolution for the topic/response to research questions.

10. Conclusion; evaluate, interpret and assess the material presented in the various sections – pulling it all together in your own words. (no new information!) 11. Endnotes (if citation method requires) 12. Bibliography. This is a separate document (review manual of style) which should include all materials which have informed your investigation (not only those utilized in writing the paper –that’s what your endnotes/footnotes are for!) Formatting: double-spaced, 12 pt. font/Times New Roman, 1-inch margins (left/right and top/bottom), page numbers.
