What are the unique cultural organizing principles and processes used in Baltimore by African American practitioners in the field?

Cultural organizing is about integrating arts and culture into organizing strategies. It is also about organizing from a particular tradition, cultural identity, community of place, or worldview (DeNobriga, K. (2011). One example discussed in class is the use of this organizing approach in West Baltimore which resulted in Roots Fest 2011. As a result of our work, Ashley Milburn, Denise Johnson, and I along with other community partners, presented at four national conferences. Three of the conferences were sponsored by Imaging America and one at the American Association of Public Health. At these conferences it became clear that our way of cultural organizing captured the attention of many. We had no problem sharing what we had done but could not articulate differences or similarities when compared to other initiatives using this organizing approach.
