What is the timeframe and cultural style? What was the cultural mood? Was the artist responding to a historical event or attitude? Do NOT discuss the specific story or message of the artwork; that is the work of Task 3.Task 2: Biographical Information – Who is the artist?You will give the class a BRIEF overview of the life of the artist. Share some interesting facts and highlights of the artist’s life. Be selective, remember, you need to keep your part of the presentation to within two to three minutes.Task 3: Explanation of the work of art – What is the style and message?You will be describing your chosen work of art. Comment on the style and content of the work. Talk about line, color, form, and materials used by the artist. What message does the work convey? Is it effective? Provocative? Convincing? Task 4: Discussion:You will lead a short class discussion on your chosen work of art: ASK THE CLASS open-ended questions like: What do you think is so special about the work? What makes it significant and/or relevant? What do you like? What don’t you like? Do you think it is beautiful? Do you think it is a masterpiece? Why, why not? (You may use some of these questions or develop your own.)
