What information is being conveyed regarding what it means to be a man or a woman in society today or what the concerns of men and women should be?
After reading Steve Craig’s essay, “Men’s Men and Women’s Women,” look at two magazines from a similar category (i.e.: health/fitness, fashion, trade, etc.)—one geared toward women and one geared toward men—and compare/contrast the two in order to answer the following questions: What do the differences or similarities between the two suggest about gender roles? What information is being conveyed regarding what it means to be a man or a woman in society today or what the concerns of men and women should be? Do you see patterns that suggest social structures or hierarchies in society?
