What science was inspired or propelled based on Astronomical Technology.

Uncategorized Assignment-helpwriting about a piece of technology used for astronomy, astrophysics or space in general. Your goal is to discuss the technology from a scientific standpoint –we are less concerned with technological details and acronyms of parts, and more concerned with the science that was required to make it, the discoveries it made, and research it propelled, etc. The report should include recent material –evenif the technology was made in the 1970’s, you should connect with something more modern as. Topicscan be drawn from: satellites, probes, rockets, rovers, observatories, telescopes, spacecraft, space stations, space devices, astronomical software and techniques, and more. The technology should be real–if it has not already been used, it should be happening soon. Note the sections of the report described below, and ask yourself if there is enough to discuss for each section, but don’t be afraid if you have to do deeper research to find relevant material. Be as specificas you can –discussing “rockets” in general would be difficult or impossible, but discussing one particular rocket or one particular launch will help bring you focus, and you’ll be surprised at just how much material you can dig up on that one particular thing. You will need to have at least four references listed in the reference list at the end of your report, including at least one that is an actual published journal article. Do not quote these references, but when you use their information you must provide a citation in AIP (American Institute of Physics) format, which is a superscript number matching the reference list number. The reference list should contain all your sources, and all your sources must be in that list (once only –do not duplicate). Do not use the class notes or readings, or Wikipedia, but seek out real verified scientific sources.
Instructions by SectionYour report should be broken down into the following sections, using these exact headings. Sections can vary inlength. Make sure to try to discuss the scienceof the technology in all sections, not just the last one, and try to discuss things that will challengeyou, not just basic historical or technical facts.Material will be judged based on how detailedand accurateit is, and also how originalit is (have you found something interesting/unique enough that I’ve never heard it before?). Don’t be afraidto give your own thoughts, too –this is your report, you can and should make it personal.
IntroductionBriefly introduce your topic, however you deem fit. Do not tell me a summarized version of what you will discuss –I already know what you have to discuss. Use this as an opportunity to be a bit creative, do not treat it as padding.
Purpose and GoalWhy was this piece of technology invented, built or designed? Why was it so necessary? What other attempts had been made to get its goals done, and why were they less (or more) effective? Why were its goals worth achieving?
Building itWhen, where, and how was the technology built? What challenges were encountered while building it, and what testing was done? What were the costs? Did everything work as expected? What science went in to this process?
Achieving the MissionAssuming the technology launched, or was put into use, how did it go? What did it do? What challenges were encountered while it was active? What was explored or investigated? If there were failures, what happened and why?Scientific LegacyWhat science was inspired or propelled based on this technology? What did it lead us to discover, or begin to investigate? What future missions are based on its efforts? This section should discuss more modern work, and can be only tangentially connected if necessary. If you are discussing current or future technology, you can cover what science will hopefully be done using it, or what studies have already been done on what it will produce.
