Quantitative designs can provide evidence that describes a phenomenon, explain relationships and differences among variables, predict relationships and differences among variables, or determine causality. (Schmidt, 2019) The way I understand it, quantitative research is all about the numbers and using them to prove or disprove research. One example of quantitative research can be a use of satisfaction survey. I use to work for a home health and they used an anonymous survey after we did care for the patient. This was very detailed survey that included questions like: did the nurse wash their hands, did the nurse teach you regarding medications, did the nurse provide wound care, etc. With the numbers calculated we could determine what teachings nurses would need for better care of the patient.2……Quantitative designs are used to examine relationships among factors that are controlled or changed, which are categorized as experimental or nonexperimental (Schmidt & Brown, 2019, p. 150). Quantitative studies must be assessed and evaluated before being used in clinical practice. Many research designs are used to support changes in nursing practice. One research design is Causality. Schmidt and Brown (2019) state causality refer to the relationship that exists between cause and its effect (p. 150). An example of Causality Research design would be a study on the long term effects of working night shift on nurses. 3……Statistical significance is used in the hypothesis testing in which the null hypothesis which refers to the lack of a relationship between the observed variables is tested. It is used to show and association between the groups considered in the study. Statistical significance is said to be achieved when the observed value is found to be less than the significance level that has been set for the study. Clinical significance refers to the practical importance of a treatment effect regardless of whether it has a noticeable, real, genuine effect on daily life.4………Rananathan, Pramesh and Buyse (2015) summarized it best when they stated that just because it is statistically significant, it does not equate to being clinically significant. When something is clinically significant it means that it has some effect on a clinical area whereas if something is statistically significant, it can viewed as reliable. Statistical significance quantifies the study being due to chance and a clinical significance is the opposite in that it is based on an actual effect (2015, para.1).To demonstrate, for instance, two groups may be selected to test a new vaccine. The clinical significance is the actual impact on those that received the vaccine versus those that instead received a placebo vaccine. If the vaccine made some impact in the lives of the patients or the benefits outweighted the risks , in reseach it can be considered as clinical significant.
