Why do you feel they are important enough to be included?

Imagine that you are part of a team of curators and historians preparing an exhibit on American history from 1865 to the present for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. The museum has given you three rooms for your part of the exhibit, each of which needs to be designed around a specific theme or topic. Each room/theme should feature 3 to 5 people, events, or historical developments from the period we studied in class which you feel are the most important ones for the public to learn about. What themes do you choose? What historical events, figures, or movements do include for each theme? Why do you feel they are important enough to be included? What are their contributions to American history? Support your choices by making reference to material from the lectures and course readings. A successful essay will include references to both the textbook and to one or more of the primary source readings we looked at this semester. Don’t forget to incorporate an introduction and conclusion which summarizes your argument about what museum visitors should learn from your exhibit!
