We need a set of rules about what is morally right or wrong to live by. Without a standard of what is morally right and what should be called morally wrong the world would be in complete chaos. For most Christians there are metaethics that would stand out as wrong right away. Ethical Egoism, which basically says do whatever is best for yourself is the exact opposite of what Christians believe and what the Bible teaches. The reality of only looking out for what is best for one’s self is that the entire world would suffer. When you only worry about what works for yourself, you will inevitable step on others. Through studying and reading our book it is obvious that some forms or theories of ethics have good thoughts, or foundations to them, but most of them seem to be lacking one thing or another that would make it very difficult to follow, or believe fully in for many people. There are parts of several different Ethics theory’s that are good; a couple of them are virtue ethics which basically calls for everyone to be virtuous and have integrity, duty ethics where you just do the right thing no matter the cost and utilitarianism which takes in to account how any choice made will affect everyone as a whole vs. the individual. In each of these I have mentioned the best part of them, and at the core they have good intentions. The big problem is there are areas that are not covered, or that would be considered some what of a grey area. In several of these you would be called to do something that might be against the fiber of what you believe in because of your religious beliefs, or your own moral compass if you will. After diving in and taking a good look at the different theories of ethics we have study I would have to say that the one I feel is the best is, the Revelational Christian Ethics. Studying the Bible for our answers as to what is morally right, or what is morally wrong would be the best option. I know that for people who are not Christian this would be hard to pursue, however the kindness and love that Christian’s are called to have for their neighbor would be good and work for the whole world regardless of their belief in God. So, setting a standard for our morals based in the Bible would still be beneficial to all. Because we as humans have a sinful nature, we need to look past ourselves for the answers as to what is morally right. Our text book even touches on as humans we do not need any help looking out for ourselves, because of this I think it is a slippery slop for humans to just decide what is morally right, or wrong on our own. This is where the Bible can help us with what is morally right, and wrong. If you take even the basic principles of the Bible, it benefits the world as a whole. Following the Bible makes Christians better yes, but all the things the Bible teaches can make everyone better even if they do not believe in God.
