Uncategorized Assignment-helpOne of the most important parts of science is dissemination of knowledge. If scientific research was not published most of the critical breakthroughs in science would never have happened. This has been true since the earliest records we have of written communication. Transfer of knowledge, critical assessment of data, and evaluation of different experimentation and relevant conclusions are keys to advancement of knowledge and fundamental to the development of new technologies.During the second half of the semester you will need to write a scholarly essay on a subject in chemistry. This essay can be one of the topics listed below or one of your own choosing on a subject in chemistry that is interesting to you. If you have your own topic, you will need to present the topic to your instructor for review and approval. In your paper you will need to research your subject, review current research that is being done…or has been done… (via scholarly papers), and present your findings and conclusions in a college level research paper presentation. The required writing style will be the standard ACS (American Chemical Society) style. You will need to look up what that means and make sure that your final paper adheres to the ACS style guidelines.Peer review is an important part of scientific papers. You will need to have one person review your paper and provide feedback to you on the content/topic, the readability and organization, and the strengths/weaknesses of your arguments. You should use this feedback to strengthen your paper before turning it in.You will need a minimum of 4 scholarly citations in your paper which support your data and suppositions. These can be citations from any format (paper publications, scientific articles, online publications, professional journals, etc.) and should not be opinion pieces in popular news feeds, magazines, or online social media sources/postings or other non-scholarly sites. These must be referenced correctly according to the ACS style guidelines. Please note that SSRN (ssrn.com) is a great site for scholarly papers with recent research. However there are a myriad of printed scientific journals and online scholarly resources that are available at the library or online so SSRN is only one of many places to find research papers and research publications.Your paper should be written at a college level adhering to correct spelling, punctuation, paragraph structure, and logical organization. It should be a minimum of four written pages (the bibliography with your citations do not count as part of your four pages), 0.7” margins on all sides, 1.5 line spacing, and 12 point font (preferably Times New Roman). Your paper must be submitted electronically in MS Word format using the submit button at the top of the page, then uploading the file at the bottom of the page, and clicking the submit button. You will also need to upload, on separate pages, peer reviews that you have been asked to provide. The page should have the title and author of the paper that you were asked to review (1 review per page if you review more than one) followed by your review of the paper. Remember that you are writing your review to the author of the paper and not to me. Your review should not be a sentence or two saying things like “this is a good paper, I liked it” or something similar. No paper is perfect so you should provide feedback to your peer about the layout meeting (or not meeting) the requirements, content of the paper, correct use of language (and suggestions to better phrase things if needed), organization of the subject and the supporting data/arguments, and the strength of any stance taken. Accuracy of information and attention to detail are very important. You will not submit the reviews for your own paper. The paper is worth 200 points and grading will be assigned from…1. …the quality of your research paper including spelling, grammar, sentence structure, correct use of appropriate language, adherence to requirements for layout/font/spacing, etc. This will be worth 20% of the grade for the paper.2. …the completeness of your research and presentation of your supporting data and information along with the appropriateness of your citations. This will be worth 30% of the score for the paper.3. …the layout and presentation of your arguments and supporting data in a logical and coherent manner with an appropriate opening, middle, and conclusion…or conclusions. This will be worth 30% of the score for the paper.4. …your assessment on how you’re learning this semester has helped you to understand the subject of your paper more completely.
