Prior to watching that film, the students will research the events and people depicted in the movie and write a 1-page paper summarizing the events. Students will be required to provide sources for their work in the form of a bibliography or works-cited page. Each student is responsible for their own paper. After the paper has been submitted, the students may watch the movie. Afterwards, the students must create either a essay-style, power-point style or video-style movie review. In it, they must evaluate the movie both for the quality of the movie (how well was it acted, were the effects good, how believable were the characters, etc.) and how accurate the movie was to the historical events or people it portrays. If Essay: No more than 2 pages, no less than 1 Page. If Power-Point: No more than 10 slides, no fewer than 6. If video: No less than 5 minutes, no more than 10. Movie Criteria: The film chosen must meet the following requirements. The movie must be at least 90 minutes long *or* must be a TV show at least three episodes long, with at least the first three episodes being watched. You must watch the entire movie. The movie must be historical. Fantasy, Science-Fiction, Super-Hero and other media not based in reality is forbidden. The movie must not be focused on American History. This is a world history class, American History is a different class, and most American students are exposed to American media. This assignment is intended to expose students to cultures beyond their own. If the events of the movie depict history that Americans were involved in (E.G. World War I or II, The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, the Vietnam War, etc) then the Americans cannot be the primary characters. Americans may be present as antagonists, side-characters or part of the setting, but the majority of the film must focus on non-Americans outside of America.
