Paper #3 Letter to the Author Prompt: This assignment requires that you write a letter to the writer/creator of a documentary. Students will identify the author’s purpose, main argument, types of evidence or support used and evaluate the effectiveness of two or three of the author’s rhetorical strategies (ethos/logos/pathos, tone, intended audience, use of evidence, author’s purpose, genre, and/or counter-argument). Note: You will also be including a minimum of two outside sources to support your points.In this letter students must include:• A salutation appropriate to the genre of a formal letter. • An introduction that includes the following: the letter’s purpose, background about the student, and an explanation of his or her relationship to the text. • Multiple paragraphs with a central idea.• A conclusion that brings the letter to a logical end and provides the recipient of the letter’s significance, next steps, or additional ideas to consider. • Identification and evaluation of the specific rhetorical strategies used by the text’s author.• Relevant quotations, summaries, and paraphrasing from the text.• Formatting of a formal letter• Include specific examples and references from the text, such as direct quotes, summary, and paraphrasing.• Use a consistent point of view (first – yes, first! or third person).
