What should the Labor Movement do in order to best serve workers?

My Professor provided these instructions: For this essay, read the opening debate statement “Why the Labor Movement Has Failed—And How To Fix It” from the Boston Review Forum on Labor, as well as each of the responses to the statement. Then compose a thesis-driven 5- to 7-page essay, responding to the following prompt: What should the Labor Movement do in order to best serve workers? I am arguing that fair pay should be a primary focus to help workers. Please help with thesis and responding to the evidence I provide so the quotes do not speak for themselves. Also, please make sure each topic sentence is argumentative and offer a nuanced and fresh perspective. I like to maintain the same formal tone and even add more rhetoic and compelling argumentative pieces. Before handing in this essay, please: *Revisit your thesis statement. Is it easily identifiable? Is your position clearly conveyed? Is your thesis the true focus of your essay? Does your thesis answer a specific question? *Read each paragraph separately to be sure it clearly connects to your thesis. If a paragraph doesn’t establish a clear connection to the thesis, either it is underdeveloped or tangential and should be reworked. Also, make sure each paragraph is a coherent, unified facet of your overall argument and that the topic sentence of each paragraph makes a judgment. *Make sure the context is clear for each piece of evidence you present Also, don’t let a quotation “speak for itself.” You must provide analysis—don’t just show us what someone said, tell us what it means in terms of your argument. *Ask yourself: do you effectively engage with at least one article/major idea from the Boston Review forum? Make sure that your engagement isn’t superficial, like checking a box by mentioning the forum. Make the engagement meaningful. *Check your engagement with counter-arguments: do you meaningfully engages with alternative positions? Do you test the validity of their claims and/or provide effective rebuttals? Does your engagement with alternative/opposing viewpoints read like “this is my opposition paragraph”? While continuing to practice and build on the skills we learned in Essay 1 (prewriting techniques and constructing a clear and complex thesis), we will expand our focus in Writing Project 2 to include paragraph arrangement and structure, intertextual analysis, crafting effective arguments and counter-arguments, and integrating sources. We will also pay particular attention to rhetorical and argumentative strategies. In other words, we’ll be looking at how good arguments get made.
