Write an essay that takes a stance on the question: Is it okay to laugh in dark times?

This is not an article review; it is an argumentative essay. Therefore, you are NOT writing an entire essay confirming or counterarguing with The NY Times article that has inspired this essay prompt.

Also, you are NOT rating the credibility of the article’s author and giving your rhetorical analysis review to readers on whether or not the article is worth their read. You have read the article in order to get your gears turning on the topic and can cite the article to support or use as a counterargument to your own claim.

This is NOT an informal chat about the topic that features your opinion; it is an argumentative essay that is set on a foundation of research and academic, formal MLA writing.

Make sure to use your own voice and not let the articles speak for you. In addition to the requirement of citing the article, “Don’t Feel Guilty. It’s OK to Laugh At Some of This…,” you are required to cite another credible source of your choosing from the following options: scholarly journal, academic article, book, e-book, magazine, newspaper, website, art piece, song, video, etc.

The third source you will need to cite in your essay is a primary interview that you conduct between you and your family, friend, or safe acquaintance. Your essay needs to have an introduction, a minimum of two body paragraphs, and a conclusion.

Each of your THREE required sources needs to be cited directly at least one time throughout your body as support for your claim or a counterargument you plan to rebut.
