This report is a comprehensive report that combines your in-class learning and service learning. You can choose to make recommendations on specific programs, or the organization as a whole. The report shall be sent to your community partner upon the professor’s approval.
Cover Letter
Write a cover letter to the contact person of your community partner to introduce your report. Start with the name, title, organization, and email of the contact. In this cover letter, explain the project and briefly introduce what is included in your report. Feel free to express gratitude or other content you want to include. Don’t forget to write your name.
Part I Why Performance Management
Using the learning materials over the course, explain why performance management matters for the specific organization. What are your key takeaways from the readings that you want to share with your community partner? Properly cite the resources.
Part II Recommendations to the Organization
Briefly identify the organization’s strategic plan and current practice of performance management, and offer recommendations. Pick the recommendations that fit your community partner and explain why and how they will benefit the organization. Use data and examples to support your arguments. Add other recommendations outside of the list based on the current limitations of the organization.
Part III Design a Performance Management System
Identify the steps in developing effective performance management systems. In each step, explain what the organization should do to ensure an effective performance management system. An outline of steps can be found in textbook Chapter 2. Be specific in the sub-steps. Choose one of the options.
Option A: If your community partner does not have an existing performance management plan. You can design a preliminary performance management plan with steps. In each step, list the questions the organization leader can consider. Your plan should include at least these components: Performance goals and objectives Operational processes and resources needed, such as budget, staff, technology Performance indicators to measure the outputs and outcomes Comparing the actual program results with the established goals The means to verify and validate measured values Two separate descriptions about 1) a minimally effective program or 2) a successful program
Option B: If your organization has an existing performance management plan, you can revise/reframe it – how the plan can be improved and what else can be included in the plan. Also, evaluate the current practice – how the plan was implemented. Offer suggestions based on your analysis.
