Review the Stages of Change Model in your text on page 88, 90 and 91. Then read the case study on page 121, Changing Behavior – Cigarette Smoking. Answer the following:

Part 1: How are each of the phases of the stages of change model illustrated in Steve’s case? Give specific examples of how he moved through each phase.

Part 2: Can you share a stage of change that you or a friend (no names please) is in for a particular health behavior? What might help progression movement to the next stage? (Example: I am in the contemplation stage of exercising every day. To motivate me, someone could share with me the expected benefits, short and long term – increased energy, increased longevity, etc. Then I might move to the preparation stage where I join a gym, buy some gym clothes and plan my activity).
