Your assignment is to analyze a meme of your choice and compose a researched report about the meme’s origins, how it relates to other memes, how it speaks to our present moment, and how the meme might (continue to) change or disappear over time (6 pages).

Provide also a brief description of its development over time, making sure to cite the various websites where you found information about its history, making sure to note where one might seem more reliable than another. Finally, guess at how the meme might mutate over time, or whether it may remain the same for some time. What gives you this impression?

Make sure you:

• Explain the cultural assumptions it tends to employ (what do you need to know to “get” the meme?)
• Argue what the meme is “doing” (what does it want you to think, feel, and do?)

As usual when composing an argument, provide descriptive examples to back up your claims. Support your claims with evidence from the course readings and from outside sources of your choosing.
