Read Bakirathi Mani’s essay “Beyond Bollywood: Exhibiting South Asian America” and explore the digital exhibition “Beyond Bollywood: Indian Americans Shape the Nation” curated by the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. Choose one of the photographs included in the digital exhibition and then, conduct a close reading of your chosen photograph. For example, in your close reading, you may focus on the composition (what the photographer grouped together in the frame), the setting, the moment that is being captured (an activity or action), the focal point (what is being centered), and the accompanying caption. Include a screen shot/grab of your chosen photograph.
