For this assignment students will be asked to create a Closing statement speech/presentation for a mock jury of their peers, after reading the book Sula, in which they will act as the Defense in a court case for one of the characters listed below. Students will need to compile a list of 3 witnesses to attest to their clients/character’s innocence as well as 1 piece of forensic evidence and any other anecdotal evidence/examples from the book. Students will be allowed to pair up in groups of 2 for this project. Closing statements should have a written portion of a minimum of 3 pages (double spaced Times New Roman 12 point font) and a visual portion (Powerpoint, video, pictures etc.). Every year on January 3, he marches through the Bottom declaring that people should commit suicide or, if they want, kill each other.
