Micro-cultures are those identifiable groups of people within a dominant cultural milieu that differ in some way from the dominant cultural group (e.g., dress, language, endogamy, involuntary membership). This is for an “Intercultural Communication” class and the project is about the concept of “Microcultures”, specifically in my case the Amazigh/Berbers. Define Microculture, discuss who these people are/what makes them unique, a little on their history, and their relationships with other cultures, how they “fit into the dominant cultural context”, etc. for example, one should specifically write much about how the Berbers fit into/ have been treated by the Arab culture they have been dominated by for centuries. Not exclusively though and more towards the end of the paper. Again, view the outline for more things to discuss. Also feel free to use any resources for research, even Wikipedia, I just cannot cite Wikipedia, I need to use other reputable sources.In the textbook (Intercultural Communication: A Contextual Approach by James W. Neuliep), microcultures are additionally defined by 5 characteristics;1. distinguishing physical or cultural trait2. involuntary membership3. endogamy4. awareness of subordination5. unequal treatmentI understand there may not be access to the textbook but other info about intercultural communication is available online and if other terms related to this subject can be used that would be great. Terms such as individualistic/collectivistic, high/low context, power distance, verbal/nonverbal, acculturation, etc. Just examples and by no means limited to only these terms.
