Describe Racism in the Justice System.

Quite a few African Americans are incarcerated with a sentence that do not fit the crime. (Body paragraphs should be 5–7 sentences and include a topic sentence, evidence, and analysis). This is my first paragraph for this paper (African Americans are incarcerated in state prisons across the country at more than five times the rate of whites. According to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) in 2018, black males accounted for 34% of the total male prison population. (U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, 1). A further area of the review of most immediate relevance to probation is the potential role of Pre-Sentence Reports (PSRs) in sentencing decisions: It is the role of the Probation Service to provide judges with pre-sentence reports (PSRs), which set out greater information about the character and circumstances of an offender. These reports may be particularly important for shedding light on individuals from backgrounds unfamiliar to the judge. This is vital considering the gap between the difference in backgrounds both in social class and ethnicity between the magistrates, judges and many of the offenders who come before them (Lammy, 2).
