You supported them as they came up with a plan to incorporate the curriculum into their classrooms in Week 2. In Week 5, you provided them with an overview of learning theory to help them understand that learning theory is at the core of effective curriculum design. This is your last week working with your fictitious new teachers. One of the teachers, George, interrupts you during one of your meetings with the new teachers and indicates that he is struggling with a plan to assess his curriculum. This curriculum is for the assignments you completed in Weeks 2 and 5. George lets you know that he has been struggling because of many different issues in his classroom. The other new teachers indicate that they have been having problems in their classrooms as well. They have had difficulties teaching students who are English language learners and students who have learning disabilities (Week 1 assignment), students struggling to learn basic facts (Week 3 assignment), introducing technology into the curriculum (Week 4), a lack of resources (Week 6), and finally, concerns with safe learning environments and bullying (Week 7). It would be overwhelming to deal with all these issues at one time, so you decide to focus on just one of the issues for your next meeting. You can pick which concern you would like to help the struggling teachers with first (Week 1, Week 3, Week 4, Week 6, or Week 7 assignment topic). In the first part of this assignment (Part A), you will present your ideas to the group to address one of the teacher concerns and how it impacts assessment. In the second part of the assignment (Part B), you will create a guide for the new teachers to take home after the meeting as a future resource on the topic. Note that, whichever issue or topic you choose, this week’s assignment must tie the issue to assessment.Presentation (PART A):Select ONE of the topics the new teachers are struggling with:Teaching students who are English Language Learners (Week 1 assignment);Students struggling to learn basic facts (Week 3 assignment);Teaching students with learning disabilities (Week 1 assignment); sIntegrating technology into their content area curriculum (Week 4);Overcoming a lack of resources (Week 6);Creating a safe learning environment, including bullying either in-person or cyberbullying. (Week 7)Provide an overview of the topic the new teacher is struggling with (1 slide)Discuss how the selected issue impacts classroom assessment and possible solutions (2-3 slides)Discuss how the selected issue impacts high stakes testing and possible solutions For your presentation, you can use PowerPoint or Prezi. If your presentation is audio based and there are no notes slides, then include a document with all of your speaking points and content. Tip: Think of the presentation as something you are physically presenting to a group. Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as speaker notes for each slide.
