Discuss the Conflict between cultures in text.

Directions: Select only one of the following essay prompts and, based on a selection of this semester’s course texts, draft a well-planned, well-written, multi-paragraph essay supported with two pieces of cited textual evidence per body paragraph that fully addresses the prompt and answers the question – This ideal essay will be 5-7 paragraphs. As the culminating writing assignment of your junior year, it will be scored as a “take-home essay,” so plan accordingly. Literature often tells the stories of characters caught in a conflict between two different “cultures” – The Great Gatsby was about social class, A Raisin in the Sun was about socioeconomic status, and the Asian American short stories were about national identity. These conflicts make characters, usually the protagonist, question their identity and go on a search for who they are. Choose one character from The Great Gatsby, one from A Raisin in the Sun, and one from one of the Asian American short stories who all share a similar conflict. Draft an essay in which you identify and analyze how each character responds to the conflict as well as a universal theme related to the conflict and present in all three works. Avoid plot summary.
