Purpose To gain experience doing an organizational analysis (exploring and explaining organization at multiple levels) of an organization facing crisis. The analysis will include the organization’s structure, culture, history, environment, member and constituent demographics/characteristics, the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic , and the steps it is taking (if any) to address those challenges. The analysis will conclude with informed speculation about the organization’s long and short-term viability and success.Content The organizational analysis will include identification and description of the following Orienting introduction paragraph with argument (thesis) about how the COVID-19 pandemic has, is, and will affect some specific aspect of the organization (structure, mission, culture, inequality, etc.)Organizational purpose and goalsOrganizational structureOrganizational cultureSWOT Analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats)Recommendations of how organization should act, drawing on course and other theoryConclusion that summarizes findings, and makes predictions of organizational future at 1, 5, and 10 years in the future based on findings and course concepts.Submission A 2000-3500 word (roughly 8-14 page, but use word count) paper (standard typeface, 12 pt type, double spaced, 1” margins all around, page numbers, student author[s] name[s] on first page) uploaded to Canvas as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf.Expectations for an excellent organizational analysis report1. Introduction:(250 words or less)Orients the reader to the organizational analysis with a thesis statement that makes a compelling argument about how the organization is being affected by the pandemic, why that is the case, and what this means for its future.2. Literature review:(250-750 words)Develops a theoretical framework by thematizing and accurately summarizing the argument and importance of at least two (total) highly appropriate course concepts; and at least two (per student author) concepts and/or items of contextualizing information from highly relevant sociological, managerial, or (with approval) other independently researched scholarly sources).
