You can only use stories assigned in the class. You need to pick ONE as the main story you’re going to analyze and use 2-3 that have the same theme for your comparison. Your story options from the course material are as follows: The Tale of the Three Apples, the Porter and the Ladies of Baghdad, Alaadin and the Wonderful Lamp, Sindbad the Sailor, The Tale of the Hunchback, City of Brass, The Tale of Ali Baba, The Story of Nur al-Din Ali ibn-Bakkar and the Slave-Girl Shams al-Nahar, Story of Azeez and Azeezah, The Tale of the Merchant and his Wife, The Tale of the Merchant and the Demon, The Story of the Fisherman and the Demon, The Tale of King Yunan and the Sage Duban, The Tale of the Enchanted King. It is your choice which theme you want to explore (4 options in the attached instructions). Outline: Paragraph 1: A sentence or two about the importance of the selected theme in the Nights. Detailed analysis of the theme in one story of your choice – here you should provide your answers to the questions: How important is the given theme for the moral – or other – transformation of the protagonist(s), and/or of Shahryar? How does it help in the development and the resolution of the plot of the story? Paragraph 2: A brief note on a some (two-three) stories from the Nights that explore the same theme.
