Help me write about why I think military conscription is wrong. A little bit of info to work with. It is jumbled, but please revise, organize and add loads to it. Mandatory military service or military conscription is a strategy used by countries to build a large and powerful military ready to be deployed in times of war or when the need to protect the sovereignty of the state arises.I was 10 when my family moved from South Korea to the U.S and I consider the latter my home. I am one of about 7800 DACA recipients from Korea. My dad who was a pastor in korea came to the States to further his studies in theology in America and he was promised a pastor job in a couple different korean churches in Los angeles county. We hoped that one of the churches would sponsor our family for a Green card, but things didn’t turn out that well and those churches couldn’t fulfill their promises. My dad continued to go to school on his student visa, and when he eventually got his master’s degree in theology, he went back to Korea with my mom. I stayed in the U.S along with my sister and applied for the dream act when my visa expired and I’ve been stuck in a limbo since. With Daca i am able to attend college and I am working towards my associates in nursing.Korea is one of the countries who impose compulsory military service. Growing up in a conservative family, I used to think that military service was a sacred duty. My dad always expected me to one day return to Korea to do my “obligation.”Many in Korea see mandatory military service as a bulwark supporting Korean traditions and society. It encourages social connection, conformity, hierarchy, and a shared sense of national pride. among those having completed their service, popular sentiment has it that the experience “makes boys into men”However, having lived in the states for about 16 years, my views changed.I believe conscription is evil. It violates free will, it delays my education and career entry. Hazing, bullying, corruption is endemic in the south korean military. Korea spends a substantial amount on defense but skimps on soldier pay. Maybe you get paid 1/40th of the minimum wage. Patriotism and Loyalty are forced down your throat without proper compensation. Important: One particular event that led to my views being changed is when I heard of a private named yoon, who was routinely beaten, and eventually murdered by his fellow soldiers. Cases like this are far too common in korea, and the military is busy covering it up to ‘save face’ and avoid paying compensation. How can I be loyal to a country who has such little regard for its soldiers?
