Uncategorized Assignment-helpFirst & Foremost: Just do your best with this essay. Two: There is no right or wrong answer for this essay…make your claim & tell me your reasons.Three: No concrete due date, but don’t fall too far behind! You can take as much time as you need, but I think you should try to finish this 2 page paper by 4/20. That will leave us with enough time to write our final paper on The Hate U Give.Four: This is a slightly more creative paper, but there is still solid academic goals, such as having a clear thesis statement & giving clear examples, as well as quotes from the reading materials to help support your claims.Five: If you need ANY HELP, please please please ask in the class discussion board. If you have the question, you know other people in the class do too & your question & my answer could help several people all at once. Here we go…————————————————————————————————The Goal of This Paper: You are writing to Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Amazon Prime, OR any other television channel or movie production company. Why? You are trying to convince them to come out with a new horror type show. You know that people are staying inside as much as possible because of coronavirus. You also, perhaps, no more than anyone else that monsters are symbols of our fears because you have read articles that not everyone has read. You know that people right now are somewhat worried, fearful, isolated, anxious, tired, bored, stressed out, etc., etc., etc. You are going to write a paper, a proposal that some particular monster would be a fantastic symbol for our current fears & worries about Coronavirus. This is where there is a lot of creativity, a lot of freedom for you, a lot of lee-way and areas for you to roam around creatively: there is no right or wrong answer! All you need to do is try to persuade and show me how a certain monster would be perfect for a new binge-worthy series. Here are the rules of this paper & there are not many:1. You cannot simply choose a virus. For example, you cannot suggest a new movie or series that will be like Outbreak or Contagion or any other kind of movie or show where the “monster” is some kind of virus etc etc. Obviously, there is no symbolism there.2. You can use a very common monster: for example, you could say that a new vampire series/movie should come out right now and use a lot of what del Torro said in his article to support your claim, only you would adapt it for our current coronavirus fears. So go ahead and choose a monster that you find interesting or that you know something about (zombie, Frankenstein’s monster, a mummy, etc. etc.), but your paper will be so much more unique and interesting if you pick a less known monster, one not so famous. I will provide you with a list of monsters that you can check out.3. Your intro should have a thesis statement that answers the question: why will _____________________________ be a useful and entertaining symbol for today’s current coronavirus worried audience? That’s it. 3 rules. Now here is a big suggestion (hint, hint): How to Format & Organize your Paper:Start with a nice intro paragraph that briefly mentions what is happening in America (the world) right now (coronavirus). Including how people are staying indoors and looking for something to watch. Mention how in scary times people often turn to entertainment, particularly (weirdly) horror — see Stephen King. Mention the monster you are choosing as a symbol for these particular times and how it could be the key villain of a particular show or movie (you do not need to have a name for your show/movie). And then end your intro with a very clear thesis statement.Your next body paragraph needs to be educational: show me that you have read the articles that I assigned. Teach me (or to play this game right) teach the head of Netflix, et al, a little something about how monsters have always been more than entertainment, that they are also symbols of worry and fear and that they say a lot about a culture and a people. Use quotes from at least two different articles.Your next paragraph(s) should do two things: get more into depth about current coronavirus fears and how people have changed their behaviors AND then tell the readers a more in depth look at the monster you have chosen: origin, behavior, etc. Finally, you can wrap your paper up by stressing the main connections between the monster you chose and current fears people have.—That’ll do it. When you are done, you will have an excellent, unique, interesting, and original piece of writing that is both academic & creative, once that lets you explore feelings that you might be having right now, while also tapping into the ideas of other great writers.checklist: Does your introduction engage readers? Do you have a clear hooking technique to pull people into the paper?Do you have a clear thesis statement that informs the reader, briefly, why your monster is an effective symbol for current coronavirus problems?Do each of your body paragraphs have clear and effective topic sentences?Do each of your body paragraphs have effective transition words and phrases?Do you have transition sentences that help guide readers from one paragraph to the next, creating an overall cohesive argument? Before writing about your own monster/problem, have you clearly established that other writers before you have discussed similar ideas and concepts, revealing that monsters are more than mere entertainment? Have you established that monsters have existed for hundreds, thousands of years, serving a variety of social functions?Have you provided enough background information about your monster so that readers get an understanding of its history/background/origins & its overall characteristics?Have you provided a paragraph that clearly shows similarities and parallels that establishes why the monster is an effective symbol for the coronavirus?
