Hung is an excellent and professional senior engineer in his food processing
company. He is also respected by most colleagues as keeping a position of Technical
Director of a branch in Dongnai province with 500 employees. On the May of this
year, he was promoted and appointed as Managing Director of Cantho branch of 210
hundred technical staff and workers working in three separate food factories in
Cantho and Haugiang. Being a newcomer, Hung is yet to get appropriate respects from
his staffs and so her managerial decisions have not be supported by team members. On the
other hand, Hung also has another trouble from jealous attitude of Ms. Hoa, a 10-year
experience senior manager in the Cantho branch. Although Hung has 12 years of
experience in food industry, but Hoa gets better understandings on the existing Mekong
Delta markets and good relationship with local staff and workers. She often complaints
that she would be worthy to occupy the position, not Hung.
Initial duties for Hung are tentatively resource re-structure and administrative cost
reduction to save money for payment of previous corporate loans which the
company had invested to build the third factory. These jobs created dissatisfaction
in most employees, especially in talent engineers and middle level managers. Covid19 pandemic has spread out since July. The management board from HCMC Head
Office has forced all staffs in branches to separately work in different locations and
rapidly apply IT in job coordination. These requirements create more pressure and
challenges to labor force of the Cantho branch where office staff preferred to work
face-to-face each other. Every week the new director receives at least two
resignation forms from middle managers. Many senior workers requested to be quit
out for finding opportunities in other companies.
The new director does not want to see the brain drainage, neither is failure of the
plan of restructure and cost reduction not only for previous loan payment but also
for reduced revenue caused by the Covid-19 outbreak. If he needs your consultancy,
