We are amid a global pandemic with COVID 19 impacting every sphere of our lives. Not only is our public health at risk, but also our economic well-being. To effectively slow the spread of the pandemic has required social distancing measures and the closure of businesses. Congressed passed the $2 Trillion CARES Act, commonly known as the Stimulus Act. The House recently passed the HEROES Act, $3 Trillion second stimulus bill.The debate over government spending has been covered in political campaigns, print/TV media, talk radio and in our homes. The question that undergirds the discussion: Is there a direct relationship between government expenditures and economic growth? This is not a new one but speaks to the complexity of answering this question. How this question is answered is dependent upon whether the person is a proponent of big government or small government. What are the contemporary issues around government spending?
